Society of Manufacturing Engineers Tours ARC Specialties

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers toured ARC Specialties on Friday.  Close to 40 members attended the tour, which included lunch and technical demonstrations of some of ARC Specialties' latest projects.

President of Arc Specialties Dan Allford lead a general walkthrough with stops in the Engineering Wing, Research & Development Lab, and Manufacturing Shop.  ARC Senior Project Manager Daryl Pope talked about his latest robot project that utilizes an articulated arm to position a drill bit beneath PTAW torches to hardface all 5 areas of the bit within a single gripping.

Project Manager John Martin showed the tour guests ARC's most recent addition to the ARC-05 family, the ARC-0HVGT, which automates horizontal and vertical bore cladding processes and uses a cradle that simultaneously rotates the turntable, part, and torch 90 degrees.

Project Manager Kevin Sevcik spoke about his Submerged Arc Welding project, a BOP welder that uses an impressive 30 ft tall positioner to handle the part.  Welding Engineer Jordan Smith gave a technical presentation on Pulse MIG Overlay, followed by a R&D demonstration of a hi-tech camera system developed by CNES astronaut & owner of Tietronix Optics, Jean-Loup Chrétien.

Towards the end of the tour, Machine Shop Manager Henry Shaffer showed tour guests ARC's newly purchased HAAS Turning Center, HAAS Machining Center, and Automated Plasma Cutter.  The new machines have allowed ARC to do more in-house machining and become even more of a complete, turnkey company.
