ARC 9 PLASMA GOUGER

The Next Generation Plasma Tool Joint Gouger

Oil well drilling pipe is coupled together using tool joints. These tool joints are exposed to wear as the drill pipe rotates inside the rock formation. A composite tungsten carbide hardfacing deposit is applied to the outside of the tool joint. Once the tool joint is worn, this deposit is removed using automatic plasma gouging prior to rewelding.

The Arc 9 Plasma Hard Band Gouger is Arc Specialties' latest design. It incorporates much of Arc Specialties' past experience and knowledge in the field with several new features that will increase productivity, and addresses several safety and environmental concerns.

The ARC 9 Plasma Hard Band Gouger Features:

  • 150 amp air cooled ESAB plasma cutter, for economical operation Preston Easton head stock
  • A step over system using a Thompson slide to position the torch.
  • An enclosed work area that is vented and fully retractable to allow easy access to the torch and the chuck for a quick setup between tool joints. This provides a safe and clean working enviroment while maintaining ease of loading and operation.
  • Easy to use controls that allow the removal of 1/16" to 3/8" of material from the tool joint. This is controlled by the postion of the torch, the chuck rotation speed, and the amount of current set at the power supply.
  • A large 12" x 12" window for safe viewing of the tool joint while gouging.
  • Skid mounting containing all items except the gas bottles. This allows for a quick, easy installation that requires only electrical wiring and compressed air.

ARC 9 Plasma Gougers can be modified and custom built to a customer's needs.
