Role Overview
We are looking to hire a detailed-oriented, driven, and resourceful Electrical Designer for automated manufacturing systems. The successful candidate will perform project and electrical design work. You will prepare project design packages typically comprising schematics, layouts, installation details etc. under the supervision of a Project Managers.
Products designed will be on shop floor from start to finish. Employee will have an office but will be required to walk the shop floor to communicate with the production team and assist with questions relating to their design, when needed. This position will report to the Vice President of Design and will work out of our headquarters in Houston, TX.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete electrical designs and layouts for complete systems and components of a project.
- Perform project design packages typically comprising wiring schematics, layouts, BOM, installation details, etc.
- Understand and apply commonly used company design standards and methods.
- Design and create 2D drawings.
- Collaborate with both Mechanical and Electrical Designers to ensure quality of design.
- Ensure that tasks assigned are completed on time and are of good quality.
- Other items as required by Engineering management team.
Basic (Required) Qualifications:
- Associate degree or technical diploma in Electrical Design, Electrical Technology, or related field (Bachelor’s degree a plus).
- 3+ years of experience in electrical design for industrial, OEM, or engineered equipment.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Demonstrated proficiency to do AutoCAD drawings.
- Ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects.
- Effective written and oral communications.
- Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate with other areas to achieve goals and objectives.
- Ability to effectively manage time and complete assignments on a timely basis.
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of Industrial control systems.
- Knowledge of Power distribution.
- Knowledge of Motor control circuits.
- PLC I/O wiring and panel design.
- Understanding of wire, cable, and conduit sizing.
- Knowledge of Instrumentation and field device wiring.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Knowledge of purchasing procedures and ability to accurately and clearly create and document purchase requests.
Preferred Qualifications
- Automation, Robotics, Machine Tools, or Custom Machinery preferred.
- Previous experience with hands on build of control panels and field wiring.
- Ability to effectively manage time and complete assignments on a timely basis.
- Experience working with ERP/MRP systems for BOM generation, JobBOSS preferred.
- Ability to develop a good understanding of Company standards, practices and procedures pertaining to engineering and design.
- Work with minimum supervision, be a self-starter, be able to meet goals and deadlines on own initiative.
- Be self-motivated and able to maintain deadlines of assigned project deliverables.
- Knowledge of control systems design and understanding of codes (NEC 70, UL508A, NFPA79, ANSI/A3 15.06, CE, EX, IEC).
